Above video: footage filmed on TV by mobile phone. Coverage is BBC Sport TV. This is what the Rugby League World Cup is all about and this is why I love Rugby League. What an atmosphere there was at this game with a sell-out crowd. I am also so proud of England, our first World Cup final since 1995. I have to say the Tongan fans are unbelievable, so passionate. Rugby League is really booming in the Pacific Islands at the moment. The comeback from Tonga in those last seven minutes is what Rugby League at the highest level is all about, so entertaining but the Lions' held on, just. The whole tournament when Tonga have played, it's been like a home game for them. Even against New Zealand in New Zealand the Tongans had most of the support. England themselves have had great support this tournament. There are around 10,000 England fans who have travelled 'down under' on tour and there were 5,000 England fans at MT Smart Stadium on Saturday but they were so outnumbered, it really was like a home game for Tonga, an island of New Zealand. Next week is really exciting, the World Cup Final in Brisbane - Australia vs England, 22 years since England last reached the final, which saw Australia defeat England 16-8 at the old Wembley Stadium, England's national stadium. There's 15,000 plus England fans expected to be at the 50,000 seater Suncorp Stadium next week. It's been an amazing tournament in 2017, co-hosted by Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. We have seen shock results and some turning of the tides with the Pacific Island nations now challenging and beating the tier 1 big 3 nations. We saw Fiji beat New Zealand in the Quarter Finals to reach their third consecutive Semi Final and we also saw Tonga come from behind to beat New Zealand. In the group stages there have been some wash out results and yes, Australia do seem to be way better than everyone else at the moment, over the last two World Cups but for me it's great seeing the tournament develop and evolve. Rugby League on the international stage is a developing sport still and we have to appreciate that. We are going to see some thrashings in the group stages, it is inevitable but as the tournament and the game develops and evolves we will see the tournament get bigger and bigger. For me, the biggest success and aside from England reaching the final, my favourite part of this tournament is seeing Papau New Guinea having their best tournament since World Cup 2000, reaching the Quarter Finals stage on home soil. Rugby League is the national sport in PNG, the only country in the world where Rugby League is officially recognised as the number one national game. The Kumuls' have always had the raw talent but have lacked the structure and money and for me have always been a sleeping giant of Rugby League. With the new national stadium in the PNG capital Port Morseby, the PNG Hunters club side winning the Queensland Cup in Australia and now reaching the Quarter Finals of the World Cup in style, the future is bright for the country - exciting times. GOOD LUCK ENGLAND LIONS' IN NEXT WEEK'S FINAL AGAINST THE FORMIDABBLE AUSTRALIAN KANGAROOS' For me, my favourite England player in this tournament has been Jermaine McGillvary (pictured below), he has been great to watch and is on fire right now. Kallum Watkins and James Roby have been another couple of favourites for me and as usual, Sam Burgess, James Graham, Gareth Widdop and Ryan Hall have all shown their world class talent. This England side is the best we have seen in a number of years and everyone in the team are doing their bit, defensively we have been great and we will need to be against Australia next week. I would also like to see us play some of the cuff Rugby League in the final, the Aussies hate that traditional British Rugby League style. Above: Me holding the Rugby League World Cup whilst I was in Australia in 2008 for a World Cup promotion. Let's hope more Englishmen will be holding this big historic cup next week. England will be playing in a World Cup Final for only the third time, the last one was 22 years ago, have been runners-up twice and aim to become the first team from the British Isles to win the World Cup since 1972. Good luck to the Lions' 🦁 #wallofwhite 🏉🇬🇧🏆 Last weekend marked 10 years since the death of my Grandad Derek - RIP: 1930-2007 - a Rugby League Legend. Derek Kennedy my Grandad was a passionate and obsessive Leeds RL fan who ignited my passion into Rugby League. He also ran a programme shop at Headingley Stadium in the 1970s and founded the Leeds RL Junior Supporters Club. Such an inspiration to me in my childhood.
