Maybe in a few years I may gain the desire again to run serious and competitively and to push my body to certain barriers again but it’s something I have done since childhood on and off and then intensely for 6 or 7 years from ages 26 to 33 years old and once you lose that inner desire it’s hard to get it back. Another factor is time and I have so many other things going on in my life now and other priorities that running has taken a major back seat for some time now, so training is not consistent for me like it once was and I don’t have dedicated diets like I once did. I am also content with pretty much all my major race distance PB’s although I do sometimes kick myself that during my physical peak years I should have run a half marathon under the 1:20:00 barrier but my record is 1:22:45 on this very Leeds Half Marathon course in 2014 and with an IT Band injury so I am very proud of my half marathon PB.
This race was Postponed from 10th May 2020 until 9th May 2021 and then again until 5th September 2021. It is my long term ambition to run 20 Leeds Half Marathon’s in 20 years. I have 6 more years to go to reach my target, that I set after running my first Leeds Half Marathon back in 2007, some 14-15 years ago.
I ran this half marathon at the start with my mates Jonny Roberts and James Hunt who has run the Leeds Half Marathon for several years now and has also been taking part in a 1,000 mile challenge for Alzheimer’s Society. You can sponsor James using this link here: https://justgiving.com/fundraising/2021-miles-in-2021
This was Jonny’s second Leeds Half Marathon, his first being way back in 2007 when we both ran our first one with our mate Gaz Paul.
